How to Journey Within for Deep Peace

A long drive to peace and joy

When I go into the woods, my worries turn to learning experiences (with solutions!), my fears are erased, and my joy is magnified. I leave refreshed, inspired, and downright joyful.

I have been driving 45 to 90 minutes from my home to find the deep woods, nature connection that makes my heart sing.

That long drive makes it impossible for me to do it daily. And, for me, daily connection and inspiration is necessary so that I can stay in my center, my strength, instead of falling into fear or anger about all the challenges in this world.

Good advice from my spirit guide

When I was at a retreat led by Tracy Farquhar (https://tracyfarquhar.com/), she introduced me to one of my guides whose name is Raven. I asked Raven for advice on how to have that daily connection that I know my soul craves.  Raven's answer was obvious and brilliant.

Look in my own backyard. No need to drive so far. Find that connection at home.

Over the years, I have lost my connection to my own backyard because when I walk through my yard, I often come back inside with ticks. In the last three or four years, it's gotten much worse. I also live very close to a road that has gotten progressively busier. The trucks and cars are even loud to me without my hearing aids in! So I have been driving to forests that have quiet, cleared walking trails and less chance of ticks climbing aboard for a taste of my blood.

Finding peace in my own backyard

But I take guidance pretty seriously...from readings or from my own inspiration. So when I got home from the retreat, I put on my yummy smelling all natural bug repellent and went to my backyard. And I reconnected with the beautiful oak tree that holds up half the sky in my yard.

I sat with it. I hugged it. I asked it to forgive me for ignoring it for so long. And I asked it to be with me as I lean into this new practice.

After a short time with my friend, I felt safe, relaxed, inspired. In my own backyard. I continued this practice as often as I needed it...not daily, but every few days when life seemed to shift into a new level of crazy.

Staying inside and going within

Then the weather turned cold and snowy. And even my own yard seemed too far.

So I sat on my couch in my living room and imagined sitting with my re-found beloved friend. I asked to feel their stability, their peace, their connection to All That Is. It took a little while to feel into that connection...but it came. And it came with the same peace and inspiration that I used to have to drive far from home to find. Like the good witch said...it was always within me.

I still love to go to the woods. I still see new metaphors and lessons everywhere. But I don't NEED to go there anymore to find myself. Phew. Such a relief!
